A relatively recent addition to London’s ever expanding luxury hotel scene, The Londoner is an asset in an increasingly crowded market place. The location could not be better for anyone who is looking to be bang in the centre of the west end, ideal for exciting nights out (perhaps you've nailed a hot ticket to the latest premiere!) and sightseeing by day. Tucked into the southern corner of Leicester Square, you’ll be immediately struck by the smart blue and white exterior, whilst inside the vibe is cool and suave with greys and golds and a welcoming lobby/lounge/bar area. The property was developed to be the world’s first “super boutique” hotel and describes itself as an urban resort, offering more than your usual run-of-the-mill upscale property. To this end they’ve created three distinctive guest only spaces in The Residence (a drawing room, The Y Bar and the Whiskey Bar) where you can enjoy complimentary teas and coffees plus day long anti-pasti snacks. All are beautifully conceived and appropriately decorated from the contemporary classic interiors of the drawing room to the club-like atmosphere of the whiskey bar and the trendy Y Bar. The Retreat is a vast subterranean spa area where’s there’s not only the expected pool, sauna, gym, treatment rooms etc, but you’ll also find a comprehensive hair and nails salon (gentlemen’s grooming too), and Refuel Bar specialising in results-driven superfood and drinks. Back upstairs there’s a choice of eateries. Whitcomb's serves fabulous Mediterranean inspired French dishes — if it’s a warm night eat on the terrace and watch the world go by whilst sampling some seriously good food; 8 at The Londoner is the rooftop bar/restaurant where they offer you a chance to sample the informal style of traditional Japanese establishments (come here for innovative cocktails and sushi). Rooms and suites continue the smart urban theme, with neutral palettes brought to life by plenty of wood (both panelled walls and beautiful floors), rich fabrics and pops of colour. Even entry level rooms boast original artworks and bespoke furnishings and most have expansive floor to ceiling windows for superb city views. Bathrooms are no less indulgent, though the better the room the better the bathroom — junior suites and above come with both deep soaking tubs and walk-in showers. Luxurious accessories come as standard; think Bluetooth Roberts radios, Miller Harris toiletries, Japanese style loos and much more! As far as breaking the mould goes, I’m not sure The Londoner goes that far, but in terms of a luxury boutique pad right in the heart of the action, it ticks all the right boxes and more.
