Enter the Peninsula Manila through its ornate lobby, the centrepiece of the hotel with soaring ceilings and double-high palm trees. This lobby plays host to everything from business meetings to afternoon tea and evening music, as a favoured gathering spot in the city. Despite the general hubbub, checkin service is prompt and personalised. A hotel of this size, 497 rooms and suites split over two wings, could easily slip into corporate territory, but the property is warmed throughout by the friendliness of its staff. Some rooms and bathrooms are dated, with brown wall-to-wall carpeting and tired, if large and well-equipped, bathrooms, and yet comfort reigns supreme. Chalk it up to the charms of this iconic grand dame. Extensive drinking and dining options on site and a fully-equipped gym and outdoor pool make this a great choice for a leisure traveller in Manila.
