“This relaxed country inn, with a contemporary-rustic freshness and low-key country-house style bedrooms, is beautifully peaceful and well-placed for exploring both Northumberland's coast and countryside.”

Hotel review

Bigger than its cottagey looks, the open-plan ground floor of this charming country inn is a series of cosy eating areas spread around the bar. With stone-flagged floors, plain scrubbed tables, exposed-stone walls, wooden chairs and velvet sofas, and assorted hunting prints and antlers, it feels solidly traditional but with a modern freshness. The five bedrooms have a light country-house touch - soft colours, thick curtains, velvet armchairs, roll-top baths - and are comfortable without being fussy. Indeed, some might think them too plain and the views aren't great. But this is more than compensated by the peace and their comfort. Food is above-average pub classics, and the service super-friendly. A welcome retreat after a day's exploring or walking, with a sunny terrace for tea and drinks.

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Our small village of Chatton is made up of a collection of beautiful vernacular stone-built cottages, almost 'chocolate box' in design. Our bar and dining areas have been designed to create the atmosphere of a 'farmhouse kitchen' with stone flagged floors, wrought iron and pine tables and tasteful luxury design throughout. Guests arrive and are enveloped by the warm, cosy ambiance, friendly staff, luxurious rooms with incredible seasonal dishes with something to suit everyone. What is there to do in the area? The Percy Arms is ideally situated for easy access to the stunning Northumberland coastline with miles and miles of deserted white sandy beaches. Alnwick Gardens and Castle are located to the south, as well as the charming market town of Morpeth which has a weekly market. Chillingham Castle is but a stones throw from The Percy Arms with its rare breed of Chillingham Cattle; the list goes on and on - just ask one of our team who'll be happy to make some local recommendations. What kind of breakfast do you offer? We offer assorted cereals & muesli, served with fresh fruit and Greek yogurt, as well as a traditional 'full English' with bacon, Northumberland sausages, tomato, mushrooms, black pudding, beans and eggs 'as you like them'. Guests can also have homemade porridge, served with honey and cream or fresh fruit. Craster kippers are also very popular as well as smoked salmon and scrambled eggs. all topped off with toast and pastries. Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We serve breakfast to residential guests, plus lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and of course our famous Sunday Lunch which is very popular with locals and visitors alike. Which are your most popular room types, and why? We have 5 luxury en-suite rooms; all with large walk-in showers and 3 rooms with shower and free standing bathtub. All rooms have luxurious fixtures & fittings. Two of our rooms are pet-friendly for a small £10 supplement and some rooms can accommodate an additional 'z' bed for a 3rd guest. What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? We have specialist children's menus and can serve half portions of dishes from our other menus. A 'z' bed can be added to bedrooms to accommodate a child if required. What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers?
