A truly welcoming English hotel, giving a special kind of stay. There are thoughtful details throughout, from the larders in the bedrooms featuring snacks, to the bathtubs in the suites which overlook a 20 acre deer park. All produce in the restaurant is grown there, or sourced within a 25 mile radius, and it works. It goes without saying the slow-cooked pig cheek with piccalilli is wonderful! A snack menu is available in the afternoon for smaller bites after returning from exploring the nearby Bath or Bristol. No room disappoints, but for an extra special stay go for a 'Hideaway' with a wood-burning stove and four-poster bed.

Why do people love staying in your hotel? The hotel is around 13 miles from both Bristol and Bath so having a choice to explore the surrounding cities is what really drives a lot of our guests. The fact that you can spend a day sightseeing the vibrancy of Bristol’s street art or the elegance of the Roman baths in Bath and then retreat to the Somerset countryside with a glass of wine is what is so appealing.
What is there to do in the area or on site? Explore the surrounding cities or countryside of course! After a long day of shopping why not book yourself in for a treatment in one of our cosy potting sheds tucked away within the gardens of the hotel. We offer a range of treatments designed to provide the ultimate experience of relaxation to revitalise mind, body and soul. Combine retail therapy with PIG therapy and receive guaranteed rejuvenation.
What kind of breakfast do you offer? Within each of our PIG hotels we provide a continental breakfast spread, full of homemade granolas, energy bars, cheese and meats and even a station where you can boil your own eggs sourced either fresh from hotel hen coops or from a farm within close proximity of the hotel. With choices ranging between a continental breakfast at £11 or various hot options from the cooked menu, you may find yourself a little stuck for choice.
Do you offer any other meals? With a garden that is bursting with seasonal vegetables and herbs, THE PIG – near Bath’s menu reflects everything the garden has to offer. The twenty-five-mile menu consists only of locally and reliably sourced produce, embodying THE PIG’s ethos of sustainability and garden to plate dining. With a smoke house nestled away within the grounds of the hotel, THE PIG even smokes its own meats and fish.
What are your most popular rooms and why? Located in the kitchen gardens, the Apple Store is a quirky room that features a double-levelled floor plan, a large monsoon shower and rolltop bath and cosy wood-burning stove that really gives the Apple Store that earthy and rustic scent. The room was originally used to store apples but has been completely refurbished into an ideal space for retreating, relaxing and rejuvenating.

Every object, from the simplest terracotta pots upwards, has been hunted down by them and, along with stripped floors, painted sawn timber clad walls, velvet curtains, chandeliers and cleverly mismatched rugs and fabrics, the result is grand yet informal, with not a jarring note.

There's a snug library stocked with Penguin classics, a lounge bar and the gently wafting scent of woodsmoke everywhere, although it's also airy and modish. Twenty-nine rooms, in tasteful shades of green and mushroom, are big for the price.

The Pig near Bath is decent value, with a strong emphasis on details and staff who succeed in being knowledgeable and helpful, but not intrusive.

Thoughtful touches are what really lift The Pig near Bath into the premier league of boutique hotels - whether it is the wonky floorboards reclaimed from French railway carriages, the portraits of the house's previous inhabitants, the multicoloured Hunter wellies lined up in the hall, or the Nespresso machines in the rooms.
