“A charming historic pub with rooms in the heart of Exmoor. The eight rooms have been tastefully renovated to provide comfy, country-chic style child and dog friendly accommodation. There are two cosy bars, excellent pub fare championing local produce and lovely garden. Ideal for a relaxed getaway.”

Hotel review

For a relaxed, low-key getaway in the heart of Exmoor, The Royal Oak is perfect. It's a charming historic inn (over 300 years old) with an illustrious past — President Eisenhower was a guest here in 1944, R.D Blackmore reputedly wrote part of Lorna Doone from the comfort of its bar and the artist Alfred Munnings had a studio in the loft. Nowadays you can expect eight tastefully renovated rooms, all done in a country chic style. From the standard rooms to the suite you will find plenty of luxuries as standard including upmarket bed linens and towels and good quality mattresses. Families are welcome too; the family room offers Sky TV with a range of children's channels, plus there's a kids' menu and plenty of board games, colouring etc to keep all ages occupied. Of course the heart and soul of a country inn is the pub and at the Royal Oak there are two cosy, beamed bars with atmosphere aplenty, plus a great outdoor bar and seating for warmer months. Food wise there's nothing fancy, but you won't be disappointed by the delicious pub classics all using locally sourced meat and fish. A stay here is really all about enjoying the stunning outdoors by day and coming home to a cheerful, friendly pub with comfortable rooms and a great atmosphere. Oh, and you can bring the dog too!
