Hotel Review
A traditional coaching inn with 12th century origins that has seen some stylish yet sympathetic modernisation in recent years. Rooms are divided into good, better, best and suites, ranging from cosy singles to family and four-poster rooms. In reality all are excellent with luxurious Egyptian bed linen, duck down duvets and pillows, fluffy towels and Fired Earth bath and shower rooms. Each room is different in character - traditional in the main inn and contemporary in the newly converted stables and cottages. Flat screen TVs and local information packs are included in all. Expect immaculate bathrooms, some with roll top baths, small study area and tea and coffee making facilities. Almost bordering Minsmere Bird Reserve plus there are numerous walks over the heath – so bring the children and the dog along. A day outdoors is a great way to work up an appetite for the delicious cuisine, which has been awarded two AA Rosettes. Meals can be taken either in the pub style bar area, in front of a roaring log fire, in the sun filled Garden Room Restaurant or, in fine weather, al fresco in the charming terraced garden. Head Chef James Finch presides over a dedicated kitchen team, using the freshest ingredients and local suppliers wherever possible. Breads are baked daily and soups, pâtés and desserts, including ice cream, are all home made. Family suites and children’s menus available. It is also near the beaches of Thorpeness, Aldeburgh, Dunwich and Southwold.
