Hotel Review

Whatley Manor is hidden away in the unspoilt Wiltshire countryside. It's a pioneering gem heralding the title of the UK's first climate-positive hotel. The hotel has been on its sustainability journey since February 2019 and throughout your stay you'll come across eco-friendly initiatives such as the Hansgrohe Ecosmart shower heads which consume 40% less water whilst still delivery a great shower.

Exuding an aura of refined luxury, this ivy-clad country house hotel and spa, housed within an 18th-century Grade II-listed edifice, promises an indulgent escape for discerning adults who are looking for a pampering break. With just 23 elegant rooms and suites, you're treated to an intimate ambience where every need is anticipated with utmost care from the delicious homemade brownies in the rooms to the complimentary bicycles beckoning for exploration.

The rooms and suites at Whatley Manor exude a sense of airy sophistication, boasting spacious bathrooms and tastefully preserved period features like beamed ceilings, panelling and hardwood floors. Bathrooms are plastic free and Molton Brown products are bottled in ceramic jars removing 26,000 plastic bottles from the hotel - the first hotel to work with Molton Brown in this way. As a Relais & Chateaux property it is disappointing that there is no turn-down service - there's nothing nicer than coming back from dinner to a room where the bed has been turned down, curtains drawn and towels refreshed.

Culinary excellence takes centre stage at Whatley Manor with two distinguished restaurants to choose from: the gastronomic Michelin Star Dining Room and the inviting and more casual Grey’s.

For moments of blissful relaxation, head to the Aquarias spa and gym with its indoor/outdoor hydrotherapy pool, a luxurious thermal suite including a relaxation room with heated beds, salt scrub showers and a tempting menu of rejuvenating treatments from Sothys and Gaia - treatment beds are wide and heated encouraging deep relaxation. Meanwhile, the green, ornamental gardens with water features and sculptures invite tranquil strolls amid the birdsong.

Horse riding and golf are within easy reach if you're after outdoor country pursuits, however Whatley Manor's calm and inviting atmosphere may well tempt you to simply stay put and enjoy the pampering spa. A romantic country escape for couples.
