About Lopud

Lopud is one of the Elafiti isles which lie a few nautical miles off the coast from Dubrovnik. It is a carfree paradise with pure white beaches, scents of mandarin, orange and lemon, olive groves, vineyards and crystal clear waters. The best places to stay on Lopud are perfect for soaking in the calm and tranquillity.

The main settlement on this sparsely populated island is Lopud village with its cafes, restaurants and hotels. Inland is mostly lush, luxuriant vegetation and lovely walks.

What Not To Miss

  • In former times Lopud was the seat of the vice rector of the republic and as such was a fashionable destination for the local elite. This glamorous past is illustrated by the many grand ruins that litter the island.
  • Most of the historical buildings were destroyed as a result of an earthquake in 1667. It is a truly evocative experience to explore the remains of the palaces, churches and monasteries.
  • The church of Our Lady of the Cave retains a rich collection of altar paintings from the 16th and 17th centuries.
  • Giorgi-Mayneri botanical park boasts plants collected from across the globe and many ancient specimen trees.
  • Lopud is also famous for Sunj beach; a crescent-shaped expanse of fine sand, it is regarded as one of the best in Dalmatia and particularly recommended off season to sample the Adriatic at its best!

The best places to stay in Lopud are very hard to book in the peak summer months, so we suggest you either plan well ahead or else try to visit during quieter periods, when the weather is just as nice, but the crowds are nowhere to be seen.
