About Felsberg

Slightly south of Kassel, the little country town of Felsberg sits amidst rolling fields. A verdant landscape studded with small lakes, this part of northern Hesse is wonderful for walking and cycling. The area has been inhabited since ancient times, and the current town boasts some lovely half-timbered houses and historic ruins. Though there are a number of good guesthouses and hotels, our pick of the best places to stay in Felsberg is notable in part for being housed in one of the town’s oldest surviving buildings — a charming choice.

Felsberg has been dubbed ‘Three Castle Town’ for the ruins of three medieval strongholds, one of which sits atop a hill overlooking the modern community. Clamber up the rocky crag for striking views from the Felsburg — dominated by a tall white tower — or venture slightly further afield to see the remains of the Altenburg and Heiligenburg Castles. You’ll find leafy rambling trails and bicycle routes to explore, along with fishing, swimming and bird watching opportunities.

Day trips to Kassel also come highly recommended for culture and arts enthusiasts. Alternatively, simply soak up the sunshine in the well-tended rose garden of the best place to stay in Felsberg - you’re on holiday, after all!
