A brilliant starting point for exploring the Cyclades, Paros is a gorgeous island base in its own right. With beautiful beaches, a fascinating history and rich mythology, as well as cracking cuisine, this is a fantastic destination for adventurers of all ages to discover. Whether you’re dreaming of a hip seaside hotel or a tranquil escape in the hills, our list of the best places to stay in Paros has it all.
Well-connected to the group’s other islands, Paros actually tends to be quieter, because it has largely been seen as a gateway rather than a holiday island itself. Our Gurus feel differently, and recommend taking the time to explore Paros’ lively seaside capital as well as its unspoilt interior. Parikia, the island’s main port, plays host to the superb Panayia Ekatontapiliani Cathedral, which has its roots in the 4th Century, as well as to striking architectural landmarks and myriad bustling tavernas. The town’s golden sandy beach is lined with excellent eateries, and has some great nightlife.
Head north to lovely Naoussa, a picturesque fishing village with plenty of traditional charm, or inland to Lefkes Olive, a mountain village framed by pine trees. To the south sits the fascinating Museum of Cycladic Folklore, which is also well worth visiting. Venture still further off the beaten track with a few days on tiny neighbouring Antiparos next door. Just don't forget that despite being quieter than its neighbouring islands, Paros is still a very busy place come the peak summer months. If you want to guarantee a room in one of the best places to stay in Paros in July or August, you'll need to do your research and book well ahead.
