About Tulum
Overlooking dazzling white sand beaches and bright green seas, the ruins at Tulum have become one of the most visited archaeological sites in Mexico. Trendy Tulum has also gained a reputation for fabulous food and music, as well as beautiful beach hotels with a strong wellness focus. Our selection of accommodation options includes chic boutique hideaways for romantic couples, as well as friendly beach hotels with pools for fun family trips, a handful of resorts and seriously smart luxury hotels. Chosen for their top-notch design, location and amenities, our list of the best places to stay in Tulum promises something special for everyone.
Tulum Pueblo itself is a lively foodie, bar and arts hub, but its party buzz and proximity to the highway may be less appealing to some visitors. Head towards the coast for idyllic beach escapes, with easy access to heaps of water sports — including sailing, reef snorkelling and cenote diving. The area’s unusual cenote dives offer a rare opportunity to delve into a underwater world of caves and rainwater-filled tunnels, which run under much of the Yucatán peninsula and are home to turtles, all kinds of fish, and sometimes bats. Nature enthusiasts will also adore discovering the mangrove swamps and wetlands of the nearby Sian Ka’an Biosphere.
Whilst Tulum’s well-preserved ruins will be right on your doorstep — and are wonderful when explored by bicycle — it’s also well worth venturing to the enormous Chichén Itzá, dominated by El Castillo, or the ruined city of Cobá, once home to 50,000 people. Both are within reach for a day trip from Tulum.
Home to soothing spas, innovative Mexican cuisine and cool craft cocktails, the best places to stay in Tulum are intimate and welcoming, perfect for a magical Mexican holiday.
