About Valladolid
Capital of the Castile-León region, Valladolid is a wonderful gateway to the wonders of northern Spain. Although at first glance a historic city studded with striking landmarks, Valladolid has a youthful energy which endears it to travellers of all ages. Accommodation options vary from simple, self-catering spots to modern hotels and gorgeous restored landmarks, fit for a range of tastes and budgets. This is very much reflected in our Gurus’ pick of the best places to stay in Valladolid.
Valladolid’s heritage heart is brilliant for on-foot explorers. Wander independently or take a guided group tour for a sense of the city’s past. Stand-out sites include the Palacio de Santa Cruz, the beautiful 17th-century Iglesia de San Pablo and the elaborate Academia de Caballeria. The Museo Nacional de Escultura showcases an impressive collection of sculptures dating all the way back to the Middle Ages, and will delight art lovers. Kick back in the verdant Campo Grande, the city’s main park for long, sun-drenched picnics or pick a perch at one of the lively bars and eateries of the Plaza Mayor de Valladolid in the evening. Valladolid really comes to life at night, with live music, little bars spilling out onto the street and some fantastic restaurants.
Head out beyond the city limits for hikes and cycling, or to sip and savour northern Spanish wine at top vineyards. One of the best places to stay in Valladolid has a winery of its own, perfect for memorable tours and tastings.
