About Seaview

Seaview is a delightfully chic, small Edwardian-era resort on the Isle of Wight, just to the east of Ryde, with a wonderfully traditional, albeit rocky, seafront, and memorable views across The Solent. At low-tide, the pale sands in front of the town are revealed, and you’ve got a lot of beach to enjoy. Add to this all the frills of a family seaside holiday: mini-golf, tennis courts, beautiful gardens and playgrounds, independent boutiques, and a great range of pubs, cafes and restaurants, and you have a wonderful bucket-and-spade spot. Most of our Gurus’ recommendations for the best places to stay in Seaview are family friendly, and ideally situated for making the most of this charming town.

Sailors love Seaview too, and of all the Isle of Wight’s sailing centres, Seaview is probably the best for learning to sail. It’s also got great facilities for other watersports including windsurfing, paddle boarding, or sea kayaking. Priory Bay is another very appealing destination — only reachable at low tide, this is a beautiful beach and swimming spot.

In summer the town bustles with life, fun and events — the main one being the Seaview Regatta. If you want to guarantee your room in one of the best places to stay in Seaview in July or August, get organised and book well ahead!

The Best Places to Stay in Seaview

For Sea Views

  • The Seaview Hotel has excellent sea views from its prime waterfront spot. There are 28 rooms and suites, some of them perfect for families, decorated in either classic seaside chintz, or contemporary simplicity. There’s a busy terrace with two restaurants (award winning fine dining and classic pub fare), which are popular with visitors and locals alike.

Great Pubs-with-Rooms

  • The Boathouse is a wonderful seaside pub with 11 rooms and suites, right by Appley Beach. The bedrooms are comfortable and airy, decorated in a pastel palette, the pub is lively and popular and the restaurant serves an excellent seafood menu.

For families

  • The Northbank Hotel is a quirky old hotel with wonderful views, and warm and welcoming hosts. This is the sort of place your grandparents might have holidayed in, with communal bathrooms and a 1930s meets 1960s feel, but it’s bright and fun and friendly, with an unforgettable atmosphere and fabulous breakfasts straight from the Aga. Family rooms are perfect for two adults and two children.

Travel Information

  • There are four different ferry routes serving the Isle of Wight. WightLink runs ferries between Portsmouth and Fishbourne, Portsmouth and Ryde, and Lymington to Yarmouth. Red Funnel run ferries between Southampton and East Cowes. All of these carry car traffic as well as foot traffic. The Fishbourne ferry terminal is about 15 minutes drive from Seaview, and the East Cowes ferry terminal is about 20 minutes. It takes about 30 minutes to drive between Yarmouth and Seaview.
  • If you want to hire a car we recommend you visit our online partner, Rentalcars.
  • The UK is known for its unpredictable weather, but, surprisingly considering it’s a small island in the middle of water, the Isle of Wight has a microclimate that’s a bit more reliable than many places in the UK. Spring days often start with rough seas and fog which burns through to sunshine; summer is dry and sunny; autumn is mild and sunny still, but with less daylight hours of sunshine.
