With a World Heritage Site coastline – also known as the Jurassic Coast - it’s not surprising that there’s a demand in Dorset for hotels with sea views. Who wouldn’t want to be able to look over its famous chalk cliffs, or down into beautiful bays backed by sandy beaches, at amazing rock formations or across to the remarkable stony barrier of Chesil Beach. Some of our Dorset hotels with sea views are quite isolated, others are in towns. Most are family-friendly. Use our guide and book your perfect room with a view!
Luxury hotels with sea views
- With its clifftop location, offering unbeatable views over Lyme Bay and Cobb Harbour, a path across the garden down to the beach, a gym, spa treatments and rooms that happily accommodate children, it doesn’t get much better for a family holiday than at the Alexandra Hotel. The hotel also has a choice of dining options, and is situated just outside Lyme Regis.
- Also with views over Lyme Bay, plus the extraordinary feature of Chesil Beach, the Seaside Boarding House is a chic, white clapboard affair with a touch of Cape Cod to its styling. All of its nine rooms have full or partial sea-views, and are done out in a cool style that mixes vintage and contemporary. The South West Coast Path is on the doorstep
For a pub with a view

- Equally charming, with its thatched roof, white-washed walls and picket fence, the 16th-century Castle Inn is set in quiet countryside, close to Lulworth Cove. Rooms are cosy with exposed stone walls, beams and a light contemporary style plus there’s a small beer garden with lovely views.
For families
- Again with views over Chesil Beach, and surrounded by fields, Moonfleet Manor has a spectacular clifftop location. Very family-orientated, with spa, pool and kids’ club as well as a terrace and the delights of afternoon tea, the former stately home has been cleverly modernised with a mix of traditional and contemporary styling.
For a boutique B&B

- If you want a beach resort and a cool place to stay, try No 98 Boutique Hotel, in the centre of popular Weymouth. Rooms are breezily decorated in shades of white and nautical blue, and have a light, spare, contemporary style. Make sure you ask for a sea-view room. It’s breakfast-only but plenty of restaurants are just a stroll away.
- Another smart B&B choice is Dorset House in Lyme Regis. The five rooms are decorated in smart shades and have stripped floorboards and are lightly furnished with a mix of contemporary and antique furniture. It offers great value for its style; some rooms with sea-views. There’s also an honesty bar.
