“It's all about attention to detail at Alcanea. Literally a stone's throw from the harbour, rooms enjoy superb views. Café society is on your doorstep, so hip couples will love it plus there's a trendy bar and sumptuous local breakfast on offer. Chic interiors for the trendy traveller.”

Hotel review

Alcanea was once the HQ of Crete's greatest politician. His offices have been turned into a calm and colourful small hotel where the emphasis is on elegance and style. It's entered via its own street-level café-bar, which spills out onto a car-free street. It's the perfect place to enjoy Alcanea's 'signature breakfast' – built around organic Cretan produce - before setting off to explore Chania, to watch the world go by, or for a nightcap. Those who prefer privacy will find it in a tranquil, vine-shaded courtyard off the first floor. In rooms, colours are ochre, rose and sunny yellow – more Moroccan than Cretan – while colourful rugs soften wood or tiled floors. Original art created by up-and-coming Greek talents graces public areas and bedrooms. All rooms have harbour views, while some have terraces or balconies. Bathrooms are classy, with walk-in showers or free-standing tubs, and perks include fluffy bathrobes, slippers and organic showers, gels and moisturisers. Cool for couples, Alcanea also welcomes singletons, with double rooms for single use at just over half the standard price.
