Owners of the much-loved Rose and Crown at Snettisham, Jeannette and Anthony Goodrich, opened their second hotel in 2008 in a glorious, listed townhouse, built in the early 18th century for a well-to-do merchant, turned into a bank in 1780, and still one of the finest buildings in the charming historic centre of King’s Lynn. Jeannette’s flair for interior design shows in the stunning interior, including 11 bedrooms with smart, carefully chosen fabrics and colour schemes. Old and new sit happily side by side: antique furniture and contemporary art, original panelling and state of the art bathrooms. Rooms range from two cosy, beamed ones in the attic to the first-floor Captain’s Room, with grand proportions and cool grey decoration, and many have splendid river views. Food in the Brasserie (also open all day for tea, coffee and cakes) is highly recommended, and the bar is a much more relaxing place in 2010 than in 1780 when it was the bank manager’s office. A very congenial place to stay and a great addition to the Norfolk hotel and restaurant scene.

"A series of attractive ground floor rooms are given over to dining space, making Bank House feel more like a restaurant-with-rooms than a hotel."

"Finally, be sure to have dinner at the hotel’s corner bar and restaurant, where the food is always good and whose lights act as beacon at night to hungry waterfront-strolling locals."
