“A 19th-century castle with wine estate, lovingly turned into a luxurious stay. Accommodation ranges from studios to three bed villas with private pools. All decorated in a modern yet unmistakably French style. Très chic. The food and wine pairing is popular as is the Mediterranean Brasserie. ”

Hotel review

Hidden away in beautiful Languedoc countryside is the lovely Chateau les Carrasses. Approached by a rickety single track road weaving its way through the poppy-lined vineyards, you suddenly catch sight of the imposing building set in a slightly elevated position to ensure amazing views. The 19th century property has been tastefully restored and converted and where there was once a miriad of rooms you’ll now find a selection of suites and apartments (a couple with balcony or terrace).

All are decorated in a sympathetic elegant style with muted colour palettes, and most come with supremely well-equipped kitchens (even the studio suites for two come with a dishwasher!). Spacious bathrooms follow in the same vein with complimentary cinq mondes smellies, big baths and rain showers. But the lovely thing about the conversion here is that a real effort has been made to retain as many of the chateau’s original features as possible; so you’ll find terra cotta tiled floors, sweeping staircases and huge windows with epic views and shutters. The chateau’s outbuildings have been converted to 19 self catering properties which can accommodate between 2 and 8; the best of these come with private garden and pool, but all have an outside space, barbecue and sun loungers — they’re also a very short hop to the main pool, if they haven’t got their own. Interiors in these units have been carefully crafted too; all are contemporary in style yet don’t lose any of the character of the original buildings.

If you want to do a bit more than sit by your pool all day, Chateau Les Carrasses has that covered too! There are bikes for all ages to borrow, a clay tennis court, ping-pong, petanque pitch, grounds to roam around and a stunning infinity pool overlooking the vines. The restaurant is definitely worth a look too (you don’t have to cook when you self cater here!). With Gault Millau accreditation you can be guaranteed a delicious lunch or dinner either inside or out on the terrace above the pool.

This place works for all; families love it (there’s a kids club on offer during the summer holidays), groups can take the larger units and the cosy suites or cottages for 2 are perfect for a romantic getaway. If you’re looking for a smart yet relaxed property where you’ll find self catering accommodation accompanied by all the benefits of hotel style amenities then this is your place!

See what they say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? The blend of a luxury self-catering holiday with spacious houses, private pools and gardens and the facilities on site mean they can choose to cook in or go to the restaurant, have private time by their own pool or have the children meet other children at the main pool. It’s relaxed luxury at its best.

What is there to do in the area? Heaps ! Barging on the Canal du midi - or cycling or walking along it, bikes provided; kayaking on the river Orb, beautiful Mediterranean beaches, hiking in the Languedoc National Park, ropes courses through the trees, historical buildings and visits, seafood restaurants, winery visits, horseriding, antiquing…

What kind of breakfast do you offer? Either a cold buffet breakfast at 15€ or with hot options at 18€

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? Yes, we offer lunch and dinner daily except for Tuesdays from November to April. We offer a full concierge service and there is a guest book in each house so you can see our recommendations and we can book them for you.

Which are your most popular room types, and why? In summer the most popular are the Maisons de La Cave because they are South facing with private pools. Outside of the peak season couples love the Maison du Jardinier or the Chateau suites with terrace. They are like hotel rooms but at 35m2 they also have small kitchen / living / dining areas offering the best of self catering whilst staying in the original chateau building.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? We offer cots and high chairs free of charge. A range of other items such as changing mats, sterilisers etc. is also available on demand. In summer our really popular kids club runs from early July to the end of August. We generally don’t offer extra beds because we have a range of 1 – 3 bedroom houses, some with sofa beds.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? Château Les Carrasses is all about relaxed luxury, surrounded by vines and with wonderful views it’s a great place for a break from it all and can be as relaxing or active as you choose to make it.
