The 14 rooms, 9 studio flats and sumptuous villa that make up the charming Divota are split over several sites in a sleepy neighbourhood, a five-minute stroll from the clamour of Diocletian’s palace and the seafront. The houses here are all 16th and 17th century fisherman’s cottages in white limestone shipped across from the nearby island of Brač. They have been beautifully restored using traditional methods and now sport cheerful dark green painted shutters. Interiors, decorated in monochrome greys and whites, are tasteful, chic and spotless. They come with yoga mats, generous toiletries, and a seriously cool vibe (some even boast a generous balcony). Breakfast, served on a sheltered terrace with a canopy awning and climbers, is excellent. Take your pick from delicious smoothies, omelettes to order, hunks of watermelon, brownies and plump tortillas. All the food is locally sourced and much is grown in the hotel’s own garden. Other highlights include the spa, across a charming courtyard from reception, where you can enjoy shiatsu, qi jong and yoga. The staff are young and full of great recommendations. Remember to book the day before for the best restaurants in high season.
