“Cosy family run BnB in a quiet area. Interiors are full of traditional paintings and antiques. Rooms feature exposed stone walls and terracotta floors. Charming breakfast room for morning feasts. Reasonable rates and friendly owners. A great find for those in search of an 'authentic' experience.”

Hotel review

There’s nothing to advertise that you’ve arrived at the ‘House at the Big Boot’, not a sign nor a plaque, just a welcoming entrance hall lined with paintings and antiques, visible through the glazed front door. You wouldn’t want to miss it though. Staying at this enchanting home from home, owned and run since 1989 by the delightful Rippl family feels just like staying with friends. Simple white-painted and exposed stone walls, parquet and terracotta floors provide a backdrop for the antiques, pictures, rugs, mirrors, clocks, pots and books that fill the house. The 12 bedrooms (some of which interconnect and have kitchenettes) are all different, bursting with character and spotlessly clean. Public rooms include a charming vaulted breakfast room with stone walls, the setting for a daily spread, and a subterranean rumpus room, perfect for kids, whilst their parents will no doubt appreciate the honesty fridge.

"Attracting a steady flow of international writers, artists and teachers, who’ve all apparently heard the word from colleagues, this old house exudes character, with guests settling into a good book next to the old-world porcelain brick-oven room heater."
