Hotel Review

Set in Golfo Aranci, a refreshingly low-rise ex-fishing village with its backdrop of hills and views across to islands. It has the wonderful authenticity of family-owned hotels where they live ‘in situ’.

The rooms are timeless and tasteful, fresh, airy and spacious. They have a beachlook with aquamarine tones of sea and sky. Fresh orchids, painted driftwood lampshades and tree-trunk tables adorn each room. All have private balconies or a terrace overlooking either the sea or the village and there’s a separate building for the suites. Standard rooms have en-suite bathrooms. The Superior Rooms and Junior Suites have whirlpool tubs or showers. The Luxury Pool Suite comes with its own jacuzzi-cum-mini pool on its generous-sized top-floor terrace. From the Pool Suites you can walk straight out to swim in the brand-new pool. All have inspirational sandstone bathrooms with the hotel’s own-brand local myrtle-scented products.

The infectious warmth of the staff go the extra mile with their delicate generosities of beach bags and restaurant fleeces. In the bright, airy foyer are ceramic artefacts and nautical sculptures, vivacious banana plants and white sofas with traditional turquoise needlework. Down a myrtle, mimosa and oleander-scented walkway is the excellent Blu Restaurant. From the hotel’s private white sandy beach, guests wade out from the shallow to the deeper water. Perfect for parents and their toddlers.

Gabbiano Azzurro Hotel & Suites

A chic, low-rise four-star hotel on the Golfo Aranci archipelago, with sea views across to the islands of Tavolara and Molara. The typically Sardinian accommodation overlooks the sea, has its own private beach, and a first-class chef.
