There can be few better places in Europe to sit and watch the world go by than the terrace of the Quisisana, with a ‘limoncello’ in hand and plate of plump olives. For decades the rich and the famous came here, drawn by the mild climate which was the original reason that a British doctor built the Quisisana as a clinic way back in the 19th century. The hotel retains the elegance of previous times – waiters in white dinner jackets – gleaming surfaces, fresh flowers. The best of the generously sized 148 bedrooms and suites look out from the back of the hotel over immaculate gardens, the swimming pool and the Mediterranean beyond. Four restaurants offer a varied choice to guests from classic Italian to rustic Pizza and even Sushi.
