Haggerston Island is something special. Family owned and run for over twenty years, Roy and Anna Turner have created a little slice of tropical heaven on this uninhabited island in the remote regions of far north Queensland. Four unique rustic huts set in the rainforest have been handmade with sustainable materials. Care and thought has gone in to the design and décor of each (the Kwila Hut is built with New Guinea Kwila and littered with New Guinea artifacts), ensuring the place oozes charm and character. Try the Beach Hut for the ultimate romantic hideaway – situated on the shore and made of driftwood found on the island, there’s a separate shower and toilet nestled beneath the coconut trees. As the island is totally unspoilt it’s a wildlife haven and there’s more than enough to do and see, including breathtaking walks, snorkelling around a 1840s shipwreck, bird watching or fishing with Roy. Feast on fresh, simple and utterly gorgeous food, most of which is grown or caught on the island such as coral trout and squid. Magic.
