Brightly sunlit via its glass roof, the minimalist reception is all white and cream marble and stucco, scattered with pale leather armchairs and glass and chrome coffee tables. Soft music plays from hidden speakers, while staff dressed head to toe in always fashionable black hover at an island-style check-in desk. Upstairs, 89 rooms over five floors of a 19th century palazzo are individually decorated – some in modern-minimalist, others art nouveau-inspired. Standard rooms are on the small side in terms of floor space, but lofty ceilings and small balconies overlooking Via dell'Indipendenza help to compensate. Shower rooms are well appointed and quite roomy, but are not for those who like to luxuriate. For foodies, La Terrazza bistro on the second floor complements the Michelin-starred Ristorante I Portici.
