Inside the half-timbered facade of an old Ottoman-style townhouse, there's a reception desk and breakfast area with cool marble floors stone arches, and limewashed walls and ceilings. Unusually for such hotels in Chania, there's a lift to upper floors, so Ionas is suitable for guests who find steep stairs a problem. There's also a generously sized wheel-chair accessible room on the ground floor. On the second floor, there's a pergola-shaded terrace with sun-loungers and coffee tables, where you can watch swifts swooping over neighbouring rooftops. Rooms and public areas are air-conditioned and each bedroom has either a whirlpool bath or a hydro-massage shower en suite. Some rooms have small balconies, and all are decorated in neutral tones (cream, fawn and pale yellow), with exposed stonework to remind that you're in a historic building. Romantic couples will like the generously-sized superior suite, with its four-poster. Fluffy bathrobes, slippers and fancy toiletries are welcome perks.
