“1,850 ft high up in the Rif mountains in northwestern Morocco sits the striking blue-washed city of Chefchaouen. La Petite Chefchaouen is a small contemporary boutique hotel within the kasbah walls with modern comforts, roof terrace (two of the rooms have private terraces) and innovative cooking. ”

Hotel review

It’s with some relief, after winding up the hairpin bends to Chefchaouen, that you arrive at the walls of the romantic blue-hued old city, originally painted magnificent blue in 1492 to deter mosquitos. Redowan, the efficient, sweet-natured manager meets guests near the medina gate (no cars permitted inside the old town walls) to assist with luggage and guide you to this spotlessly clean and surprisingly modern 5-room hotel. It’s well worth booking in for dinner as the cook takes pride in her recipes. After a day spent wandering round the cobbled alleyways of the picturesque pretty city, you will be treated to a veritable feast. This is a precursor to a decent sleep (only disturbed by the muezzin’s call) on comfortable beds with the softest linen. Be sure to secure a room with a terrace for a view of the mountains and white hilltop Spanish mosque.
