“This Benedictine monastery dates back to the 10th century. Expect grand spacious interiors and comfortable rooms in an historical, romantic setting within a picturesque village in the Cathar region not far from Toulouse. Its superb cuisine is a particular highlight.”

Hotel Review

This impressive chateau has a checkered history, over the centuries falling foul to flooding, fire, ransacking and ruin resulting in the building being reconstructed several times. The first record of its existence dates back as early as 928. Once inside the ramparts a wide stone hallway leads past an inner cloistered courtyard revealing part of the ancient ruined abbey walls. Despite the high ceilings and grand interior, there's an informal atmosphere thanks to current custodians, British couple Peter & Katie who have been running it as a hotel for thirteen years. From the pretty terrace with canopied tables, where breakfast, drinks and afternoon tea are served in summer, a romantic tiered garden leads down to a secluded pool. Rooms (all ensuite) are comfortable, maintaining a chic country style with quaint original details. The renowned cuisine entices people from far and wide to sample the delectable five course dinner in the courtyard. Open March to October.
