Perched on the edge of Scotland’s only lake, which lost ‘loch’ status thanks to a Dutch cartographer’s mistake in the 1800’s, this former manse has grand views across the water to the wider landscape of the Trossachs National Park. The interior follows a Bostonian New England theme with a palate of watery blues and creams, wooden floors and ornamental geese. Of the various sizes and types of bedrooms offered the Lake View Suite is the best and worth the extra cost. The hotel’s ambience is gentle and generally pleasant but it’s Head Chef Graham Campbell’s innovative and deliciously simple food that really pulls in the crowds.

"The heart of the hotel is set in an 18th-century manse and the little buttressed, Gothic parish church it was once attached to still stands in the grounds."
