The Louis is an utterly charming and quintessentially Bavarian hotel in the heart of Munich, right opposite the city’s famous Viktualienmarkt food market. Its design is heavily influenced by traditional local culture. Each room has local, handmade walnut and oak furniture reminiscent of a typical Upper Bavarian farmhouse. There are bench seats with velvet cushions, nests of three-legged, milking-stool tables and fabric-covered and leather-handled TV cabinets. The first-floor, wood-panelled Grillroom restaurant and adjacent cocktail bar are urban interpretations of cosy, rustic dining parlours, or stuben, found in old Alpine chalets. Don’t miss the delicious steaks that the Grillroom chooses from its alternating specialist Butcher of the Month, and the traditional sausages and full vegan breakfasts it serves each morning.

This lovingly crafted hotel perfectly reflects its location but to get even more of a Munich flavour, fling open the double-glazed French windows and let the buzz of the city rush in. The warmth of the sunlight, the scent of herbs from the market stalls just across the road and the uplifting peal of the bells of the mighty 14th century Heilig Geist (Holy Ghost) church ringing out across the rooftops.
