“Tranquil haven just stumbling distance from the sea. The property comprises tents, log cabins and one beach villa. All are air-conditioned with private bathrooms. Whilst the tents are Mughal style the other accommodation is traditional Portuguese-Goan. Perfect for a laid back, budget escape.”

Hotel review

Montego Bay is a tranquil beach side haven, nestled in a quieter part of town. As you walk through the palm lined gardens to your room you can hear the waves crashing against the sea. The Mughal style tents are closest to the ocean and provide a comfortable stay with excellent air-conditioning (essential in Goa!) and their own sit out verandas. Whilst the log cabins are a little roomier they are set further back, towards the entrance of the property and can be a little dark. There is also a private beach Villa, decorated in traditional blue and white Goan colours. The staff are wonderfully friendly and will go out of their way to help organise any activities. Renting a bike or scooter is a must in order to explore some of the area's more deserted beaches. There is a bar playing good music and serving even better drinks. Whilst the dining here is nothing to rave about it is fine for snacks and there are plenty of excellent restaurants, including Jardin d'Ulysse, within walking distance. Rooms start at £55 a night making this an incredible value for money stay!

Five best ... Goan beach retreats

Surrounding a century-old beach house, this collection of rustic log cabins and large Rajasthani tents have proper beds, flooring and toilets. Olive Ridley turtles nest on the quiet beach, and the city of Panaji, the Goan capital, is 30 minutes away.

Goan beach houses: four of the best

The century-old Beach House at Montego Bay in northern Goa sits at the heart of what is essentially a holiday village, offering 19 rooms in all styles from comfortable log cabins to a handful of luxury tents (with baths and western-style loos), all set within coconut groves moments from the beach.
