Nestled deep within the labyrinth of cobbled lanes of old Palma, you may be lucky enough to stumble across this splendid hotel. Found in the La Lonja district, this glorious 300 year old palaçio has been owned by just three prominent families. It was originally built by Antonio Massa who amongst other things was a privateer captain and a priest, then it became the home to Palma’s first mayor, Antonio Marqués, and later became the home of the Schindelhauer family, European traders closely linked to the nautical world.
A beautiful haven from the hustle and bustle of the city, the hotel is a welcome retreat after a busy day exploring. The location is perfect for a short walk to the ocean front, to the fabulous shopping areas of Palma or to the station for the tram to Soller.
Careful renovation has been undertaken throughout the grand palaçio ensuring that the atmosphere and beauty of the building has been thoroughly preserved. You'll find graceful arches, alabaster columns with capitals, a stunning inverted imperial staircase with wrought iron balustrades and a magnificent, lush and shaded 200 m2 indoor garden. A cool rooftop terrace overlooks the cathedral, perfect for an evening cocktail, and there's an exclusive techno gym with steam room for an invigorating workout. These fabulous facilities make Palaçio Can Marqués a wonderful place to relax and a perfect base for an extended stay in Palma.
The suites will take your breath away. There are thirteen in total, all individually designed by internationally renowned designer Aline Matsika. They offer a blend of past and present, of culture, art and antiquities. Murano glass chandeliers throw light on opulent velvet sofas and panelled walls. The mix of contemporary and vintage furnishings from 17th century sculptural busts to handwoven rugs blends effortlessly. The bathrooms have etched porcelain tiles, the very best fittings and offer a restrained but utterly gorgeous space to relax and contemplate the day. The Riad suite is the pièce de résistance. Reputedly the largest suite in Palma, it consists of three individual suites within a fabulous 380 m2 space. Perfect for a family of 6, it has its own kitchen which could be utilised with a personal chef, and its own private roof terrace. The Eden suite is the perfect choice if you would like to avoid the stairs, it has its own private lift direct from the garden. Each of the suites has its own uniqueness right down to the smallest suite aptly named Cocoon, which is perfect for a long weekend break.
Breakfast, lunch and dinner take place at the Merchants, a classic steak house with a twist. Surf and turf like never before, all served by young, enthusiastic staff in a restaurant which is fun, lively and has a playlist to get those feet tapping!
If you are looking for a luxurious home from home, in the best location of this wonderful city, look no further.

Palma used to be a city with its doors closed. A decade or more ago, walking through the Old Town meant walking past palatial Renaissance homes that hid behind metal gates and wooden doors. Occasionally you might catch a glimpse over somebody’s shoulder as they retreated into their private courtyard — a snatched peek of a pale stone staircase or ornate balustrade — but generally you were locked out, exiled to wander the tangle of narrow streets in a permanent state of speculation.

This resplendent palacio is among the finest luxury hotels in Palma thanks to its captivating marriage of unspoilt heritage and cosmopolitan design edge. Rooms, which span extravagant romance to city apartment in style, long to be idled within – though you'll likely be tempted outside for drinks on the rooftop terrace.
