Hotel review

Boasting a glorious setting on the beach by the jungles of Mexico's Riviera Maya, Palmaïa, The House of AïA is a five-star luxury wellness retreat. The whole experience offers a much-needed, nourishing time out from the everyday stresses of life and it's no exaggeration to promise that you'll leave feeling transformed. The environment on its own is enough to feel this way; with its infinity pools, jungle walkways, cenotes, sumptuous beach loungers and huts, and chic chill-out areas.

Guests can take part in daily ‘Architects of Life’ classes, ceremonies and rituals drawn from ancient Mayan practices and led by local master guides and healers, including yoga, meditation, drawing classes, breathwork and cacao ceremonies. But no pressure, the approach to wellness here is relaxed; which means Palmaïa draws in a mix of clientele; including active couples, solo travellers and families (there's even a family pool with slides).

Don't miss the Atlantis Spa which offers unforgettable treatments inspired by local ancient healing traditions. The treatment rooms are dotted around the jungle and there's a magical cenote for guests to enjoy a swim or ritual in before a treatment.

The delicious food across its four restaurants is predominantly plant-based and locally-sourced, but there are some non-vegan options available. There's an excellent range of non-alcoholic cocktails too, with the option to add alcohol.

Finally, the spacious, contemporary, stylish guest rooms all offer jaw-dropping views of the ocean and the sunrise is worth getting up for.
