“A lovely 16th-century Umbrian farmhouse surrounded by lush gardens. The five rooms are set around a leafy central courtyard creating a feeling of privacy. Each room is individually decorated some more classically romantic and others more modern and minimal. A truly bucolic rural getaway!”

Hotel review

Full of charm and warmth Relais Casamassima is what the Italians call an 'agriturismo' (a working farm) but it's far more than that...it really feels like a small boutique hotel. There are just five enchanting en-suite rooms. Four of these are suites, each spacious, all with a working fireplace, some with a private terrace or living room. The fifth option is a deluxe twin room. The mixture of contemporary and antique furniture creates a cosy yet modern feel throughout. The owner, Anna, a nature, art and music lover, has restored this countryside home into an elegant and stylish 'buen retiro' - somewhere you can escape from it all. There's no restaurant as such but in addition to breakfast, light lunches and dinners (using products from the farm) can be arranged if you let Anna know in the morning.

The views from the pool (open from June to September) and some of the terraces stretch across the Umbrian hills, vineyards and olive groves to the medieval city of Perugia, rich in history and art and only 15 minutes away. The silence is only broken by the sounds of nature and at night if you're sipping a glass of wine on the terrace you'll hear the chirping of the crickets fill the air. Relax and enjoy the pool and the garden or borrow a book from the library which has a wide selection of international titles including many on fashion, an industry Anna worked in for 20 years. If you're planning to have a celebration in Italy then look no further Relais Casamassima can also host civil marriages, receptions, birthday parties and by prior arrangement private dinners and lunches. Staying a few days? We recommend you have a wine and olive oil tasting from the working farm or enjoy a traditional Umbrian cooking class. In-room massages can also be arranged. Do hire a car as you'll want to explore the nearby Umbrian cities including Perugia, Gubbio, Spello and Città di Castello - all easily reachable as the motorway is just 5 minutes away. Don't forget Tuscany is also very close by and Siena, Arezzo and Lake Trasimeno should all be on your list to visit...that is if you can drag yourself away from the peace and tranquility!

Map & Location

See what they say

Why do people love staying in your hotel? Guests love the Relais Casamassima mostly for its rooms and surroundings: the Suites are elegantly designed and have plenty of space for a long and relaxing stay. The green hills and the countryside, along with the swimming pool opened in the summer time, make the guests stay here to relax more than anything else.

What is there to do in the area or on site? Relais Casamassima is near the main points of interest in Umbria: Perugia, Assisi, Spello, Gubbio, Montefalco, and more, are easily reachable by the E45 highway, so you can choose to visit more than one city in a day and be amazed by different historical and cultural influences. Museums, ancient Roman Villas and medieval castle are waiting for you!

What kind of breakfast do you offer? We offer a traditional Italian breakfast with fresh products: guests are welcomed with a breakfast card in their Suites, where they can decide what to have the next morning. They are also asked to give us a time to be served, so that we can prepare delicious and still warm/fresh dishes. Homemade yogurt, fresh eggs from our chickens, jam and cakes make it all more delightful and authentic.

Do you offer other meals? And can you recommend good places to eat out locally? We offer the opportunity to reserve either lunches or dinners, depending on availability. Usually guests have to tell us what kind of meals they require prior to arrival, and during breakfast time the following days of their stays. If we can’t serve the meal required, we have plenty of suggestions to give and we also make reservation for them, if needed.

Which is your most popular room, and why? Each Suite in the Relais Casamassima is different, so it’s difficult to tell which one is the most liked. Suite 2 is loved for its terrace and its private location. Suite 4 is the “Honeymoon Suite”, chosen by couples, newlyweds, or those celebrating special anniversaries and romantic gateways. Suite 1 and the Deluxe Twin Room are the most popular among families or group of friends, thanks to their proximity. Last but not least, Suite 3 is the larger one, so it tends to be chosen by long-stay guests or couples with children.

What facilities do you have for children and can you fit extra beds in your rooms? We do have high chairs to be placed during meals, one extra bed suitable in all suites, two sofa beds (Suites 3 and 4) and two box-cribs for infants.

What message would you like to give Hotel Guru readers? If you are into the quiet of the countryside and relaxing in between exploring Umbria, Relais Casamassima is the perfect choice to make. You could either decide to stay all day long by the pool during summer or to read a great book in our library. Taste our pure extra virgin olive oil and the various types of wines we produce with our farm, along with homemade meals with local products selected by us just for you. You are just minutes away from your stay in a dreamy Umbrian paradise.

Relais Casamassima, Umbria, Italy

A working farm with rooms. This agriturismo is a peaceful spot for guests who prefer to be left to their own devices. Whitewashed walls make the interiors feel bright and contemporary. Rooms give onto a leafy central courtyard so feel more like private apartments.
