An imposing curved building located just on the edge of Maspalomas’s famous sand dunes, Palm Beach was originally built in 1975 to mimic the large resorts already on the island. It has since been renovated by the acclaimed Paris-based designer Alberto Pinto, who launched headfirst into the Miami-style aesthetic, as you’ll immediately see with the retro-inspired lobby filled with bold, colourful artworks and jolly striped sofas. Of course, you’re so close to the beach that you can easily pop down for a swim before breakfast, or whenever you like – but walk straight out onto the hotel terrace and you'll see the first of five different pools. At Palm Beach, in fact, the lifestyle is centred around the various pools, which are set amidst a jungle of enormously tall palm trees. Breakfast can be taken right on the water's edge, as well as excellent tapas served at Bar Africano (without doubt the best Spanish omelette I’ve ever tasted). Drift over to the garden for gentle afternoon yoga, just set back from the adults-only pool; while a highlight is the discreet spa area including a salt cave, sauna, and cold plunge pool – all nude and in total privacy. Suites boast enormous beds and spacious balconies with diverse views – whether it’s the sea, pools, rolling dunes or lovely gardens.
