“An award winning centrally located pub with comfortable individually decorated guest rooms is well situated, close to the cathedral, for city sight-seeing. Couples will love the cosy romantic feel and friendly, helpful service.”

Hotel review

This characterful 18th century coaching inn in the heart of the cobbled streets of Winchester has long been a popular watering hole for locals and visitors. Enjoy a cosy atmosphere sitting in the wooden bar with open fire or dine in the restaurant area, spread throughout a series of inter-connecting rooms. Pewter and ceramic tankards are strung across the doorways and ceiling with quirky pictures lining the walls. Food is robust, flavoursome and nicely presented to you at mismatched wooden tables with chairs and benches. Upstairs, overnight guests might need to duck under low beams and cross creaky floorboards to reach their room. All rooms are individually decorated with antique furnishings in keeping with the traditional feel. The comfortable beds are made with quality linen and each room is equipped with an adjoining bathroom, some with roll top tubs.

Wykeham Arms, Winchester: Staying Over

Open one of the handsome Georgian bow doors into the Wykeham Arms, on the corner of Canon Street and Kingsgate Street in Winchester, and out floats the reassuring aroma of 250 years of slap-up meals served to hungry college boys, visiting parents, locals and no doubt the odd cathedral cleric.
