In the thick of London’s trendy Shoreditch district stacked with restaurants, bars and clubs, the Z Hotel Shoreditch is surprisingly affordable given its excellent positioning; most convenient for bleisure travellers not lingering in their rooms. The hotel is housed in a converted office building steps from Old Street roundabout, where you can jump on the Northern line. Rooms are clean but stark, and their compactness won’t please everyone (a few lack windows, and clear shower doors hide no secrets). What’s sacrificed in charm is made up for with reasonable rates, and walking out straight into the action. A decent quality continental breakfast buffet features hot bacon and egg rolls, plus vegan and gluten-free options, but does come at an extra cost. The 24/7 café downstairs is a relaxed place to catch up on emails, a menu of fresh pizzas, salads, and barista coffee keeping you going. Clocking off, you’re well placed to discover endless galleries, shops and street art on Columbia Road and Brick Lane.
