About Treviso

Known for its canals and prosecco, the best places to stay in Treviso are a natural magnet for foodies and romantics. This is where prosecco comes from, and tiramisu! Close neighbours with Venice (with more canals), and Cortina d’Ampezzo (another centre of prosecco production), Treviso also makes an ideal base for exploring the whole Veneto region. Our list of the best places to stay in Treviso is centred in the historic heart of town, a space with cobbled streets, and elegant Romanesque architecture, within Venetian walls. There visitors will find many historic townhouses and palazzo converted into small boutique hotels and B&Bs.

Treviso takes meal times seriously, whether you’re ducking in to a deli, or sitting down to a feast. As well as being wonderfully romantic, with its narrow canals and many bridges, and gorgeous frescoes, the historic centre of town is rich in cafes, bars, restaurants, bakeries, sweet shops, and delis, and browsing them is a real pleasure. And Treviso isn’t very touristy, so the quality of food has to warrant repeat custom. Between meals you may want to explore Treviso’s markets, and there are a number of them. From Tuesday to Sunday there’s a seafood market on Pescheria island; there’s a farmer’s market three times a week in the Piazza Giustinian; and each Saturday there’s a street market by the San Tomaso city gate. Treviso also offers visitors a couple of very impressive art collections, several excellent museums, and great shopping opportunities.

The best places to stay in Treviso may also be of interest to cyclists. Home of Pinarello, this is definitely a city to bike around, but beyond that is picturesque countryside, with great bike routes, including several hills worth attempting. The local Pinarello shop will rent you a bike by the day.

  • For our Gurus, the most pleasant times to visit Treviso are between April and June, and September or October. It is hot and busy in the summer months, and gets quite a bit of rain in the winter months, but it’s extremely pleasant to take lunch on one of Treviso’s picturesque piazzas in early summer or autumn.
