About Glamorgan

Encompassing Wales’ two largest cities, as well as picturesque countryside and coastline aplenty, Glamorgan makes for a wonderful holiday base for a trendy city stay or a superb seaside escape. Accommodation options across the region are wide-ranging, with everything from simple B&Bs to slick luxury hotels fit for a whole host of budgets. Our pick of the best places to stay in Glamorgan includes chic Cardiff boltholes, a characterful inn at the foot of Cefn Bryn, a romantic Victorian clifftop spot with dramatic views, and some pretty village guesthouses, perfect for a long weekend on the coast.

Cardiff, Wales’ capital and largest city, is buzzing and increasingly popular with visitors. Catch opera, hip-hop or stand-up comedy at the Wales Millennium Centre, marvel at ancient fort ruins, eat, drink and shop in the city centre, or hit the regenerated Cardiff Bay area for lively evening events. Famed for its rugby prowess, Wales is also a great place to catch a match — visit Cardiff during the Six Nations for the full experience! Glamorgan is well-known, too, for the first-class Glamorgan Cricket Club, and their stadium is a superb place to spend a long, laid-back summer’s day.

Beyond Cardiff sits Swansea, also home to heaps of history and culture, and close to lovely Mumbles Bay, where some of our favourite guesthouses are located. Base yourself in the seaside resort of Barry for classic, old-fashioned British seaside fun, amble along sandy beaches, or venture to the beautiful Gower Peninsula for craggy clifftop strolls and wild ocean views.

With ruined castles, intriguing natural land formations — including Worm's Head — and pretty towns such as Port Talbot to discover, Glamorgan’s coastline is wonderfully varied and inviting. Keen ramblers can also head inland to the southern edge of the Brecon Beacons, where the mountains give way to deep natural valleys, fantastic for walking, hiking and wildlife-spotting.

Whether you’re on the lookout for a romantic city break, a weekend’s cricket or a seaside holiday for the whole family, the best places to stay in Glamorgan promise the ideal base from which to experience the region’s impressive array of landscapes, cultural highlights and ancient history.
