About Provincetown
Provincetown is at the very tip of Cape Cod — a colourful, sandy outpost set on a beautiful stretch of New England coastline. Famed as the first place the Pilgrims landed, ‘P-town’ is now home a lively, artsy community and makes for a fantastic holiday destination. Accommodation options are wide-ranging, with everything from historic B&Bs to chic luxury hotels fit for a whole host of tastes and budgets. This is an appealingly compact town for on-foot explorations, and most of the best places to stay in Provincetown are within easy reach of both the town centre and the peninsula’s striking beaches.
Previously home to a large whaling and fishing fleet, Provincetown features a gorgeous historic heart. Many of its impressive heritage mansions now house independent boutiques, eateries, galleries or small hotels. P-town has long been popular with creatives, writers and free-thinkers, and proudly boasts one of the oldest artist colonies in the USA. Expect an inclusive vibe and a thriving LGBTQ+ community, too. Amble along Commercial Street to pop into funky galleries or visit Provincetown Art Association & Museum, and look out for a rich programme of theatrical performances and live music throughout the year.
History buffs should head to the Pilgrim Monument and the old Provincetown Public Library. If you’re into sailing, kayaking or fishing, on the other hand, Provincetown Harbor is a great place to start. Herring Cove Beach and Race Point Beach & Lighthouse are brilliant for relaxing seaside days, whilst active explorers can enjoy the Province Lands Bike Trail, Beech Forest trails and wildlife-spotting at the Cape Cod National Seashore.
Whether you’re travelling as a foodie couple, a group of friends in search of buzzing nights out, or a family dreaming of laid-back beach days, the best places to stay in Provincetown promise something very special. Hip and funky, this is a fabulous destination for a Cape Cod adventure.
