The West Country has always been a hugely popular destination for both families and couples. It doesn't seem to matter what time of year, demand for quality accommodation here is always high. With that demand comes more pressure to go the extra mile for guests and provide not only top notch service and food, but also fantastic facilities. Our quest for the 20 best hotels with hot tubs in the West Country has identified quite a number of excellent options: from grown up bolt holes to more family friendly seaside charmers, some with private hot tub rooms others with spoiling spas with hot tubs.
For the Scrapbook

- Palatial, but with a Gothic edge, Bovey Castle is a country house hotel thoughtfully imagined to offer something luxurious for every contemporary family member: think Lego room service for the smalls, and bespoke spa treatments for the bigs, for starters, then tennis, golf, gin making, falconry displays, horse riding croquet, pigeon shooting, a steam room, sauna, spa, swimming pool and hot tub. And two restaurants. The location, within Dartmoor National Park, is quite something, but this is a special place
For a Rural Retreat

- On the edge of Dartmoor National Park, the five star Boringdon Hall Hotel is certainly a regal-looking retreat — and it’s adults only. Its 40 smart rooms and suites are decorated in a range of styles — the most traditional have four-posters and fireplaces, and the most contemporary have minimalist details and stand-alone tubs. Their spa is one of the best in Devon, a state-of-the-art offering with an impressive menu, a huge indoor pool and several alfresco hot tubs, which you can hire out for private use.
- Northcote Manor in Devon is an 18th century country house, turned hotel, which offers the simple pleasures of good food, views and peace. But beyond the tranquil Japanese garden and the ‘secret garden’ is an impressive state-of-the-art spa, with a hot tub, sauna, steam room, gym and treatment rooms.
For a Private West Country Hot Tub

- Summer Lodge in Evershot, Dorset, is a Grade II heritage-listed country house hotel surrounded by lovely gardens and spectacular “Hardy” countryside. Inside expect a profusion of fabrics, gilt mirrors, brass fenders, globes, tartan cushions, swags and fringes galore, plus a world-class sommelier, a spa and electric buggies for the luggage. If the public rooms are a tad fussy for some, the bedrooms are deliciously pretty and supremely comfortable. A fulsome cream tea is laid out in the afternoon. Book the Ivy Cottage, which has a private outdoor hot tub.
- Newquay’s Fistral Beach Hotel is a simple looking hotel where all the energy is focussed on offering guests a relaxed stay. The spa and treatment menu is long, the sea views are glorious, and the restaurant and bar have minimal decor, but excellent fare. You’re surrounded by some of Cornwall’s best surfing and walking spots, but the indoor pool can be pretty enticing too. If you want a private hot tub book a hot tub suite.
For a Spa Break

- St Michael's Hotel in Falmouth is a charming spot for a spa escape. There are just 32 elegantly, but simply decorated, rooms and suites to share the state-of-the-art spa and gym facilities — complete with a hydrotherapy pool, rhassoul mud room and Cornish sea salt steam room, and the impressive indoor pool, four tennis courts and beautiful sub-tropical gardens. There’s also an excellent restaurant and chic bar.
- Christchurch Harbour Hotel and Spa is a 64 room hotel with a pampering spa and wonderful views of Christchurch Harbour, Dorset and beyond. This is a sophisticated take on the classic seaside hotel with a glamorous bar for pre-dinner drinks, and the Upper Deck restaurant, with its wonderful views and equally wonderful seafood menu. The spa has an extensive menu and facilities to match.
For a Sea View
- The Nare is a country house hotel, but right up against a sandy Cornish beach. Accommodation is in the main house, and in a collection of cottages, and there’s good range of sizes — the largest suites and cottage have private kitchens and dining rooms. The hot tub overlooks the bay, as does one of the two pools. There are also two restaurants, plus a cocktail bar, a sauna and steam room, tennis courts and a croquet lawn.
- The Salcombe Harbour Hotel overlooks the estuary, for a view of bobbing boats and sandy beaches — all just a short walk from your hotel too. The hotel is laid out over a series of terraces, so most of the 50 rooms have a lovely view too. They've also added a cinema to list of facilities, which already included an indoor swimming pool, excellent restaurant and an indulgent spa.
For a Beach Break

- Soar Mill Cove Hotel is a relaxed, friendly seaside hotel a couple of miles from Salcombe. There are just 20 rooms and suites, some of them with private patios and incredible sea views — the others have garden views. For a hot tub, book one of the self catering villas (the two units share an outdoor tub). Plus there’s a well reviewed restaurant known for its local specialities,
- Devon’s Watersmeet Hotel is a classic seaside hotel, built in 1900, and serving as a hotel since 1914. Obviously it’s been modernised, and fairly recently too, but it retains some of the old Edwardian charm, snd a very seaside-y feel. The restaurant has 2 AA Rosettes and serves classic English fare, and there’s an outdoor pool and indoor spa with a hot tub.
For Romantics
- The Scarlet is a carefully, and rather elegantly, designed eco-hotel overlooking Mawgan Port Beach. The design and decor are contemporary, and there are incredible sea views — especially from the cocktail lounge and stylish restaurant. There’s also a gorgeous spa, and a hot tub right on the cliff top, which is available to hire.
- Lower Barns is a boutique B&B just outside pretty St. Austell. Its six individually designed rooms are brightly decorated, and dotted with interesting, travel-related curios, and two of them have private hot tubs. A beautiful, mature garden surrounds the properly, and they offer table d’hote style suppers. Romantic and affordable.
For an Urban Escape

- Bath’s The Bird is a cheerily converted Victorian mansion, just moments from all the main sights, and overlooking the green fields of the city's Recreation Grounds. Its 31 rooms and suites are brightly, and interestingly decorated, all dripping in art, and a bit quirky and individual, but also romantic and comfortable as a priority — our favourites have private terraces with hot tubs. The restaurant is a treat too.
For a Family-Friendly Spa Break

- Carbis Bay Hotel overlooks one of the Cornwall’s most beautiful bays, and is just along the coastline from chic, arty St. Ives, so the location is excellent, and we love the hotel’s magnificent views. Our Gurus also appreciate the watersports facilities, and the surfing, and the restaurant, garden and swimming pool with a view all get a mention too. But if it’s just the hot tub you’re interested in then you should know that you can book it by the hour, so its bubbly views will be yours and yours alone. But if you and your family stay in the Beach lodge you can have your own hot tub any time you like.
- Fowey Hall is a small-and-charming country house hotel overlooking the south Cornish coast and Fowey’s river estuary. You’re five minutes from the beach and ten minutes from the Eden Project, and there’s a creche, nannies and kids club available to your smalls if you want to spend an afternoon in the hot tub overlooking the sea.
- The Bedruthan Hotel & Spa is another great family friendly hot tub hotel with sea views. They have an extensive spa menu too, and both indoor and outdoor pools, plus an excellent restaurant and babysitting on request. Here the hot tub is part of the Sensory Spa Garden experience.
For a Hot Tub Mini Break

- Homewood is an elegant country house set in beautiful grounds just outside Bath. With a really impressive spa, and just 21 rooms and suites to share it, this hotel makes for a romantic break — especially because the best suites have private outdoor hot tubs. The restaurant has standout, British cuisine and there’s statement art on the walls. And if you have your kids in tow, there will be plenty for them to enjoy too.
For Great Value
- Merchants Manor is a converted manor house in the heart of Falmouth, just a short stroll from the beach. Its 39 rooms and suites are decorated with contemporary minimalism, and nautical notes; the 3 AA Rosette restaurant has won awards for its cuisine, and has an emphasis on level produce; and the spa has a huge pool, a small gym, plus a sauna and steam room and a hot tub.
- Harington's Hotel is an excellent value hotel in Bath's town centre. There's no restaurant, but that's no problem in this location, and they have a hot tub in the courtyard that you're able to hire.
