20 Best Hotels in Vermont for Skiing
Vermont has thousands of acres of snowy slopes and trails which have long attracted eager skiers and snowboarders, so there is plenty of choice when it comes to the best hotels in Vermont for skiing, from alpine chalet-style affairs in Bromley Mountain or Woodstock, which is close to one of the country’s oldest ski areas, to elegant inns in and around Stowe, and country resorts close to Killington. Or you might want to book hotels along the 300-mile Catamount Trail, which offers intrepid travellers the opportunity to navigate across much of the state on cross-country skis or snow shoes! Whatever type of skiing accommodation you fancy our Gurus have something for you on their list of the best hotels in Vermont for skiing.
For Ski-in Ski-out Access
- The Lodge at Spruce Peak is a three hundred room holiday resort outside Stowe, with a chalet-feel and a great selection of accommodation ranging from rooms in the main lodge to self-catering cabins. The decor is cosy, but the proportions are generous, with huge windows. You can ski-in and out of the resort in season, and there are hot tubs, a heated pool, play areas and a pampering day spa.
For Chalet Chic
- Seesaw's Lodge isn’t just a lodge, it’s a collection of lodges and chalet-style cottages close to the Bromley Mountain ski resort, and one of the most alpine looking and feeling of our Vermont skiing hotel picks. Expect plenty of timber and exposed stone, inside and out, and fireplaces or stoves, but with simple, fresh-feeling details. Some of the cottages and lodges have two bedrooms and some three, plus living spaces and kitchens or kitchenettes. But there’s a also a rustically atmospheric restaurant onsite.
For Families
- The Sun & Ski Inn and Suites is a family-friendly choice close to Stowe, with great facilities and plenty of choice when it comes the size and shape of your room. There are 39 rooms in all, including suites and multi-room apartments – all simply decorated. As well as the range of rooms, families may appreciate the bowling alley and indoor pool, proximity to a golf course, and friendly restaurant with European-style cuisine.
- The Trapp Family Lodge is a larger lodge close to Stowe, with a really good range of rooms, suites and villas. The atmosphere is pleasantly traditional – think wood fires and country views – but the décor is contemporary – think wood furniture and un-fussy colour schemes. Arguably one of the highlights of the Trapp Family Lodge is the 2,600 acres surrounding it, with biking trails and canoeing in summer, and cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling in winter. The family suites have two bedrooms.
- The Farm Road Estate is a collection of suites, cottages and villas set on 18 acres of woodlands outside West Dover. All rooms have charming rural views of ponds, meadows and woods, and most have a private outdoor space too. The rooms and suites in the historic inn have charmingly traditional décor, while the cottages and villas have a more contemporary feel, plus cosy living spaces and kitchens. The estate has an outdoor pool, and there’s a great restaurant. As well as loads to do!
For Romantics
- The Green Mountain Inn is an historic inn in the heart of Stowe, with rooms, suites, self-catering apartments and whole townhouses available for guests. With this many rooms and suites there’s plenty of variety when it comes to décor, but guests can expect traditionally plush fabrics and furnishings, and luxurious features. As well as indoor charms, the Green Mountain Inn also has a leafy garden, and outdoor pool. And a ski shuttle for the winter season.
- The Stone Hill Inn is an elegant, nine room inn, arranged like a string of bungalows, each with their own patio doors, and views out onto the ten acres of maple, birch and pine forest that surround them. The rooms are designed and decorated with romance in mind, with huge four-poster beds, fireplaces and two-person tubs. The location, just outside Stowe, is convenient for eating out, but the inn does have a charming dining room, plus a sitting room and games room. No children allowed.
For a Rural Retreat
- Sitting extremely pretty, on six acres right beside Kent Pond, the Mountain Meadows Lodge is a beautifully converted historic lodge with 26 rooms and suites. And it’s just five miles from the Killington K1 gondola, and three miles to the Pico Base. The rural views are wonderful, and there’s a chic bistro, a games room, watersports facilities, and stylish, slightly industrial décor.
For All the Bells and Whistles
- The Castle Hill Resort & Spa is a grand, historic house, set in manicured gardens, with an impressive Aveda spa; one, two and three-bedroom condominiums with living space and kitchens, and a fine dining restaurant. It’s very close to Okemo Mountain. The Castle Hill Resort offers a classic spoiling escape.
- 506 On The River Inn is a charming, family-owned hotel in a gorgeous, secluded spot on the Ottauguechee River. It has 45 rooms and suites, decorated in a classically contemporary style in shades of stone (our Gurus favour those with huge windows and private terraces). The Suicide Six Ski Area is less than ten minutes away, and Killington Mountain Resort and Pico Mountain are about half an hour away. There’s also a bistro and cocktail bar onsite.
For Great Facilities
- The Topnotch Resort and Spa is a large and luxurious resort, well positioned for the slopes, but also offering inspirational mountain views. The 100+ rooms and suites are simply decorated, and the facilities are excellent – there’s a fitness centre and gym, tennis courts, a pool and gardens, horse riding, fly fishing, plus a spa and a great restaurant.
For a cosy B&B
- The Pettigrew Inn is a 19th century inn in Ludlow, which is about a mile from Okemo Mountain and the snow there. There are 15 rooms in the inn, all comfortable and decorated traditionally, plus a spa, and a lounge with a wide open fireplace, perfect for cosying up after skiing.
For Fun
- Field Guide is a small and stylish Stowe hotel, with fun and eclectic interiors and an alpine edge. It has just 30 rooms and suites, plus a seasonal pool and fire pits, and a great little restaurant. Chic and affordable.
Charming Inns
- The Featherbed Inn is a charming inn in a fantastic spot in the Mad River Valley – opposite the Mad River, but just off Main Street, close to Irasville. Its nine rooms are all individually decorated, with a mix of traditional details and contemporary comforts, and feature wooden floors, whitewashed walls, exposed beams, and oodles of country charm. The location is perfect for mountain biking, as well as skiing and snow-shoeing. There’s no restaurant, but they do a lavish breakfast, and four-course suppers on request.
- The Grafton Inn is a traditional feeling, 19th century inn in the heart of Grafton village. Its 45 rooms, suites and self-catering guesthouses are cosily decorated, but with all the mod cons. There’s the added bonus of a pub and restaurant onsite.

- The Deerhill Inn is a cosy inn, with comfortable charm, 13 rooms, and crackling fires come winter. Each room is individually decorated in warm colours, with subtle lighting, and tasteful antiques, and guests can expect the home-from-home treatment, with extra blankets, complimentary cookies and cider, and a lavish breakfast to set you up for the day. Our Gurus recommend the views from the front of the house, especially. You’re just seven minutes from Mount Snow.
- The Inn at Round Barn Farm is a 12 room B&B surrounded by hundreds and hundreds of acres of breath-taking mountain scenery. The décor is plushly comfortable, with country style furniture and floral fabrics; the luxurious bathrooms have over-sized tubs and spectacular views. The location is perfect for skiing in the Mad River Valley, and close to four outstanding golf courses. No kids.
For Great Value
- The Red Clover Inn is an historic 13 room lodge, dating from 1840, in the beautiful Green Mountains. The décor is simple but elegant, with four-poster beds, fireplaces, claw-foot tubs, and big windows.
