Chile's Patagonia region is an untamed wilderness of breathtaking natural beauty. Finding a way to navigate the unforgiving Carretera Austral is key to the Patagonian experience; hotel El Mirador de Guadal offers guests a cosy and well-located base from which to begin exploring the region's natural treasures. Guestrooms are warm and inviting, with excellent amenities and a boutique finish; families can book a private lodge with multiple bedrooms, a separate living room and fireplace - a necessity in the harsh winters. All rooms feature wood panelling, plush soft furnishings and local linens. The best rooms offer lake views and a private terrace. The hotel's restaurant serves excellent Patagonian cuisine and boasts an extensive wine list. There are a range of packages available from the hotel to assist you with local exploration, from trekking along the River Maqui to horseriding and yoga on the beach. If you have your own car, the hotel will happily provide you with itineraries for your own trips; don't miss the Marble Caves on the lake's northern shores. A stylish nature retreat with first-class facilities.

The Mirador de Guadal lodge is one of the most beautiful places I’ve been. The cabins are exquisite: individual hand-crafted cypress suites with local artisan furniture and wrap-around decks gazing across the luminous waters of General Carrera Lake. The food is delicious: fresh salmon and ceviche, steak and crème brûlée.
