Perched up high like the name suggests, Highcliffe House has a spectacularly commanding 180 degree vista over the coastline of north Devon. On arrival guests are greeted warmly by one of the engaging hosts and owners, Richard or Robert and ushered into a salon in a symphony of grey and mauve hues. The house is decorated with a dazzling art collection the pair have picked up on their extensive travels, from Bhutan to Japan, among the 120 countries they have visited thus far.
All six bedrooms are individually decorated with antique furniture, ornately carved beds and have breathtaking views. At night the lights of Wales can be seen twinkling in the distance. The place is spotlessly clean with everything you might need - towelling robes, coffee/tea making facilities, binoculars, hot water bottle and Amazon Alexa smart device. Guests - mainly walkers - are invited to have a drink in the downstairs bar before heading out for dinner at one of the buzzy restaurants in town offering Thai, Indian, tapas, Italian etc, all within strolling distance. Breakfast is served until 9am in a glass fronted room overlooking the dreamy, ever-changing seascape and options cover everything, from croissants and granola with berries and yoghurt parfait to pancakes with maple syrup and eggs every way. Richard has an impressive collection of vintage china crockery so guests never get the same cup twice. For adults only, this is a boutique B&B for people who favour peace, comfort and personal service.
