Tandil is a charming town in the southeast of the Buenos Aires province known for its ceramics and 'Cerros', or, hills. The town's name means 'moving stone' and comes from a naturally occurring boulder that balanced precariously on a hill in the region before it fell in 1912, breaking in two at the bottom of the hill. The town is popular with tourists from the city since it offers easy access to the country. Hostería Ave María occupies a pretty, rural cottage in Tandil dating back to the 1960s. Having undergone a recent renovation, the lodge now offers chic accommodation while retaining an authentic country feel. The comfortable guestrooms vary in size and amenities; some have garden views while others overlook the mountains. Book the Alberto Suite for mountain vistas and a private terrace. The lodge operates a kitchen and there are half or full-board options for guests; expect fresh, organic ingredients and tasty local delicacies. Other package options can include activities in and outside of Ave María, from guided country walks to canoeing and golf. The hotel also offers a seasonal swimming pool, which makes it a great place to unwind for a few days over the summer; a charming country getaway.
