Collobrières is a medieval market town in southeastern France; something of a hidden gem in the region, it is known for the chestnut trees which infuse its culture and food. The town is spanned by a 12th-century stone bridge crossing an idyllic river; with cobbled streets, traditional cafés and little else, it makes a delightful holiday destination. Hôtel des Maures has been an establishment in the town since 1886; occupying the same location as when it first opened, it now offers a terrace restaurant and bar which overlook the river. It has had a complete facelift to bring it into the modern day and now offers contemporary rooms with clean, unfussy interior design. Larger rooms aimed at families can accommodate up to five people. The hotel is located a five-minute walk from the town's main sights but has a secluded feel to it; guests love the peaceful setting and traditional, small-town atmosphere. Make sure you sample the hotel restaurant's authentic local French cuisine. A pleasing, understated bolt-hole.
