Hotel Review

Hotel Heureka has been hailed since its opening for offering a quiet hideaway to escape the crowds in Venice in the summer months. Set in a beautifully restored 16th-century palazzo, the hotel gives you the feeling of being in a Venice of a bygone era. The fact that there are only ten rooms in this luxurious guesthouse means you can enjoy a moment of peace in what can be a very crowded and noisy city in peak season. The charming interior garden is an oasis of peace and tranquillity, where you can sip an espresso in the morning while planning your day. With high, wood-painted ceilings boasting original cornices and cool terrazzo floors, the best of traditional Italian interior design is elevated with a touch of contemporary furnishing. It is easy to see why this luxe bolt-hole has reviewers raving.

Secret Venice: escape the crowds

If you want to enjoy this extraordinarily beguiling but insanely overcrowded city in the summer months, when the hordes trudge lemming-like between St Mark’s Square and the Rialto Bridge and rapacious restaurateurs charge €500 for a fish lunch, there’s a simple solution: stick to its hidden places, from off-the-beaten track bars and little-known islands to secret bolt holes.
