“Beautifully restored Ottoman mansion hotel, an Arabian Nights fantasy with a water garden, lovely rooms full of character, and gourmet dining with views of the bay. ”

Hotel review

Kavala isn’t Greece’s most immediately prepossessing spot, but it is a great base for exploring the little-visited eastern mainland with its spectacular scenery and ancient monuments. It’s also the ferry port for transfers to nearby Thassos island, and if you’re looking for authentic Greek life you’ll certainly find it here. Anna Missirian has made this spectacular Ottoman building (semi-derelict in the early 1990s) into a stunning, Arabian Nights dream with orange trees around its shady pool, gorgeous rooms with domed ceilings and arched windows, and a gourmet restaurant.
