Sue and James, practicing Lord and Lady of the Lewtrenchard Manor have created a time warp to the 16th century. Whilst staying at this historic house, an architectural masterpiece, one really feels as though you are walking through the pages of 'Middlemarch'. The ballroom, gallery, library with cavernous fireplace and Gertrude Jekyll gardens are all masterpieces. Bedrooms range from historic (one contains a double bed belonging to Queen Henrietta Maria, wife of Charles I) to modern country chic. All with gleaming bathroom suites. The hotel's restaurant is also a stand alone success, if you are a foodie make sure to try their nine course taster menu or their afternoon teas, enjoyed out on the terrace on an English summers day. Their are also a plethora of "outdoorsy" activities on offer including clay pigeon shooting, fishing and falconry. If you are looking for an aristocratic weekend away then this is your hotel.
