“A boutique hotel set over two Grade II listed townhouses in Holgate, close to York's main attractions. The rooms exude elegance and comfort, with railway references throughout celebrating the area's history. Breakfast is served in the orangery and there's an outdoor courtyard. A sophisticated stay.”

New Holgate review: a rail-inspired York townhouse

The New Holgate is a boutique hotel that is set over two of these townhouses. Railway references run throughout, including leather seats inspired by old carriages in the glamorous, 1920s-style whisky lounge. There’s also lots of focus on the future: the hotel is powered by wind energy and the car park (gold dust in York) has charging ports for electric cars. Most exciting is the food and drink, all sourced within a 45-mile radius, with thick-cut bacon courtesy of the best butcher in Ripon and squeaky halloumi from a cheesemonger in Castleford.
