Chic and cheap, Park Head Head has been renovated and reconfigured from head to toe. Spacious rooms with solid oak doors and handmade furniture create a modern feel. Bathrooms are modern with paraben-free body products and heated towel rails. There's plenty of parking, a really spacious courtyard and play area at the back of the hotel. It's early days but once the grass and the garden grows there will be a charming place for guests to sit outside. Rooms are spready across the main building and courtyard with pet-friendly rooms on the ground floor of the courtyard.
Why not have a drink at the bar before heading into The Oak Room for supper? The menu in the Oak Room has some of the best British classics - prawn cocktail, fish and chips, sausages and mash. Puddings are delicious, the choice is tough we tried three of them - sticky toffee pudding coming out the winner!
There's plenty to do and see in and around Bishop Auckland and it's only a 15-minute drive to Durham. Binchester, the largest Roman Fort in England is just a mile away and there's a lovely walk to the castle which takes about an hour.
Great location and amazing value.
