Hotel Review

One of the loveliest properties in the Douro Valley, Quinta Nova de Nossa Senhora is authentic, warm and utterly welcoming all at the same time. With a real home-from-home atmosphere and just 11 rooms, it manages to personalise the stay of every visitor, treating them like a guest in a family home. Their wines are exquisite (try their Mirabilis Grand Reserva white) and the food in their Conceitus Restaurant, under local Douro boy Chef André Carvalho, offers a talented interpretation of the region’s cuisine. Try the suckling pig terrine with crispy sweet potatoes or roasted brill with mushrooms and truffle puree. There is a Wine Bar which serves tapas and a good selection of local wines by the glass.

Bedrooms are pleasingly simple with an attractive rusticity which perfectly echoes the surrounding landscape. There is an outdoor swimming pool, beneath the hotel with views over the vines and the river beyond.
